New Research Reveals Link Between Gut Bacteria and Obesity
Possible link between gut bacteria and obesity*?
![]() |
A new Mayo Clinic study states that "microorganisms in the gut appear to have an important role in host energy homeostasis" and that "the microbial ecology of the human gut and points to modification of the gut microbiota as one means to treat people who are over-weight or obese." The study revealed that the extraction of calories from food was assisted by internal bugs and that the obese people in the study had fewer of these bugs than the lean people. Does this mean that taking a probiotic can help reduce obesity? The study shows that it may be possible and that more research is needed.
My opinion is that you absolutely need to enhance your digestive system with helpful bacteria. I have taken BioGaia for three months now and have never felt better. I used to suffer from what I called "dairy situations" if you know what I mean. I used to get these all the time and I would just deal with them. They would ruin me for a day each time. Since I started taking BioGaia, I have only had two of these "dairy situations" and they were reduced significantly in intensity and duration.
